Sony PlayStation 4 Pro review: The best games console for 4K players

Suddenly, they’re arriving in half that time and asking you to make difficult decisions about whether your merely middle-aged machine is ready for retirement.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is the latest console to ask that question, with a Pro version of the multi-million-selling console arriving in Australian stores today.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro launches today. Priced at $399 and providing upscaled (or, depending on the game, native) 4K for existing PS4 games, the PS4 Pro marks the first major mid-generation console update in a long time.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president Shawn Layden noted that, “The launch of PS4 Pro marks the first time ever that PlayStation is introducing an upgraded console in the midst of a platform’s lifecycle.

“PS4 Pro caters to our fans who embrace innovation and want to enjoy the advancements in visuals made possible by the latest imaging technology. The development community is already taking advantage of the boosted power within PS4 Pro, and we’re eager to see how their creative efforts continue to make PlayStation the best place to play.”

All existing PS4 titles will work on the PS4 Pro and some games like the upcoming Final Fantasy 15 and The Last Guardian will be patched to take advantage of the upgraded hardware. Will you pick up a PS4 Pro? Let us know in the comments.
